Too often we assume that being mindful involves engaging in physically activities like yoga or meditation. Whilst those activities are great, it’s important to remember that there are also simple everyday things you can do to stay mindful.
Here’s a list of 8 simple and effective ways to stay mindful throughout the day. These are easy to do and help rewire your brain to be more mindful.
What Is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness sounds like a simple word, but what does it mean? Mindfulness is the ability to be fully aware and present in the moment, instead of living in the past or future. Not overreacting or getting overwhelmed by what’s going on around you.
Why’s Is It Important To Be Mindful?
Most of us lose sight of being mindful, but it’s ever so important. Our minds often takes flight and we lose touch of our bodies. This causes us to fret and overthink about the future, which makes us anxiety and causes stress.
If you’re mindful and are able to make small mindful changes in your everyday life, this helps keep any anxiety at bay. Being present in the moment means that you’re not worrying about the past or future.
Writing in a journal is a great way to capture your thoughts and also clear your mind. By journaling you’re able to reflect on your day and purpose, which overtime will help you put everything in your life into perspective.
2. Eat Consciously
Whilst eating it’s important to savour the taste and texture. Too many of us multitask whilst eating, taking away from mindful eating. Chew your food slowly and fully take in what you’re eating.
3. Breathe Deeply
It sounds simple, but many people forget how effective taking a few deep breathes can be. While you breathe, follow each breath in and out of your body. Doing this regularly throughout the day will help you be present in the moment and have a clear mind.
4. Slow Down
There’s no need to rush around trying to get everything done at once. Working your life to unnecessary deadline will only lead to high stress levels, which aren’t good for anyone! Slowing down is necessary and we all need a break from time to time. If you approach it the right way, you’ll still get everything done too.
5. Put Your Phone Down
Far too many of us spend endless hours scrolling on our phones and not leaving in the present moment. Freeing yourself from the distractions of your phone will remove interruptions and help you feel more free.
6. Be More Active and Stretch
Sitting and being a couch potato all day really isn’t doing you any good. Even spending 5-10 minutes on your feet every hour will benefit your wellbeing, as well as health
7. Go Outside
Connecting with nature is an important part of being mindful and I think most of us shut out the outdoors as much as we can nowadays. No matter what the weathers like, learn to appreciate and love the wildlife and scenery around you.
Getting a good nights sleep will help you wake up with a clear mind. Keep your phone, laptop, or tablet out of your bedroom and switch it off. I recommended not using your phone 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
