New Orleans is a city known for its food, culture, music, and nightlife. In the city, you will hear this quote often: “Laissez les bons temps rouler”, which translates to “Let the good times roll!”

If you’re looking for a good time during your visit to New Orleans, here are 9 Things You Must Do in New Orleans!

Stroll Around The French Quarter

The French Quarter is one of the city’s most iconic and historic neighborhoods. Everywhere you turn, you will see colorful houses and cast-iron balconies. Make sure to take the time to listen to the jazz musicians on the streets, your ears will thank you! The French Quarter is also filled with award-winning restaurants, bars, and clubs to visit.

Eat Authentic Creole Cuisine

New Orleans is known worldwide for its food. While in New Orleans, you have to eat authentic Creole dishes, such as gumbo, shrimp creole, jambalaya, and crawfish etouffee. I definitely recommend dining at Mother’s Restaurant, where they have been serving authentic cuisine for 80 years.

Go To The French Quarter Market

This is one of the oldest markets in America. It is located in the French quarter and is filled with several vendors that sell various items, such as food, drinks, clothing, and souvenirs. Make sure to have cash on hand.

Walk Down Bourbon Street

When most people think of New Orleans, they think of Bourbon Street. Bourbon Street is lined with several bars and clubs. You are sure to find one that suits your interests and have a great time.

Ride The Historic Streetcar

These streetcars have been used for over 150 years. There are four lines to choose from that all start from Downtown New Orleans. It is a great way to see this beautiful city.

Eat Beignets At Cafe du Monde

I have been going to this well-known cafe since I was a child. The beignets seem to get better every time I go. Cafe du Monde has been serving these delicious beignets since 1862. When you visit make sure to order a hot chocolate with your beignet for dipping.

Feed Alligators On A Swamp Tour

There are several companies that offer swamp tours. My husband and I decided to go on a swamp tour randomly during our honeymoon. We had so much fun learning more about the swamps and the animals that live there.

Visit The Jackson Square

Make sure to stroll around the Jackson Square to see the artists paint. The artists even sell their paintings in Jackson Square as well. Also, take some time to admire the St. Louis Cathedral. It is the oldest cathedral in the United States. Please be mindful that is an active church and services are still held there.

Tour The St. Louis No.1 Cemetery

I went on this tour during high school and I went again as an adult. I learned so much both times. The Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau’s vault resides here. If you’re into it, make a wish and mark her vault with three x’s. If your wish comes true, return and circle the x’s to show others she granted it.

I may be biased, but New Orleans is an amazing city to visit. Each time that I visited the city, I have a fun time. I hope that during your visit, you are able to discover something new and fall in love with this culturally-rich city. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
